Description:
Abstract: This Web Map Service (WMS) layer serves natural color imagery from the 2010 National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP) for New Jersey. NAIP acquires digital ortho imagery during the agricultural growing seasons in the continental U.S. A primary goal of the NAIP program is to enable availability of of ortho imagery within one year of acquisition. The source imagery used is 1 meter ground sample distance (GSD) ortho imagery rectified to a horizontal accuracy of within +/- 5 meters of reference digital ortho quarter quads (DOQQ's) from the National Digital Ortho Program (NDOP). NAIP quarter quads are formatted to the UTM coordinate system using NAD83. NAIP imagery may contain as much as 10% cloud cover per tile. Georeferenced Tagged Image File Format (GeoTIFFs) for NJ were acquired by the NJ Office of Information Technology and reprocessed to lossless JPEG2000 format. See Data Quality>Lineage for details. In most client software, the default spatial reference system of the service will be Geographic Coordinates, WGS84. Several other coordinate systems are supported natively by the WMS (see Supplemental Information). Please note that the WMS resamples the data, so the locations and characteristics of features shown by the service are not identical to the reprocessed image files.
Purpose: This service was created to provide convenient internet access to 2010 NAIP orthophotos. It can be used by anyone with internet access and client software that can consume Open Geospatial Consortium compliant Web Map Services (WMS).The data provide aerial survey of the State of New Jersey. Orthophotos serve a variety of purposes, from interim maps to field references for earth science investigations and analysis. The digital orthophoto is useful as a layer of a geographic information system.
Supplemental Information: See Distribution Information, Ordering Instructions, for important details on how to use the service in ArcMap and ArcCatalog (ESRI desktop mapping products). For imagery details, consult metadata records published by the USDA for the individual county mosaics. Link to the search for these records is provided in Cross Reference. Publication dates for the counties are as follows: 2010-07-22 Mercer 2010-08-10 Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Monmouth, Ocean 2010-08-16 Bergen, Passaic, Warren 2010-09-23 Cumberland, Essex, Gloucester, Hudson, Hunterdon, Morris, Salem, Somerset, Sussex, Union 2011-06-01 Middlesex In addition to the default spatial reference, this service supports requests for data delivered natively in the following coordinate reference systems: -EPSG::3424 NAD83 NJ State Plane coordinates, US Survey feet (Transverse Mercator projection) -EPSG::2959 NAD83 (CSRS) Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) zone 18N -EPSG::3616 NAD83(NSRS2007) NJ State Plane coordinates, US Survey feet (Transverse Mercator projection) -EPSG::3857 WGS84 Web Mercator aka Pseudo-Mercator, Spherical Mercator or Popular Visualization CRS -EPSG::4269 NAD83 Geographic Coordinates -EPSG::4326 WGS84 Geographic Coordinates -EPSG::102711 ESRI NAD83 NJ State Plane coordinates, US Survey feet (Transverse Mercator projection)

Acknowledgement of "NJ Office of Information Technology (NJOIT), Office of Geographic Information Systems (OGIS)" as the WMS source would be appreciated. Reference date for the data set in a citation should be 2010. Please be aware that there are size limits on images requested from our WMS. To limit the load on our servers, the maximum image width and length is 4096 x 4096. If you need to use larger images (e.g. for poster-sized maps), please download image tiles for the area of interest. Image tiles for NAIP Orthophotography are available from the US Department of Agriculture NRCS Geospatial Data Gateway Web site https://gdg.sc.egov.usda.gov/ . Statement from USDA about the source data: Users should be aware that this is an interim release. The interim compressed county mosaic may contain defects and have horizontal accuracy less than the specified tolerances. Imagery may be replaced to address defects found in a small number of products through quality assurance processes.

Ordering Instructions: This OGC-compliant WMS is compatible with a broad range of client software (See http://thecarbonproject.azurewebsites.net/Products/Gaia for one example of a free client). Use the network resource address to connect to the service. You will have to drill down to get to the single data layer.ArcGIS-Specific Instructions:-Launch ArcCatalog or open the ArcMap Catalog window.-Open "GIS Servers" in the catalog tree and double-click "Add WMS Server". -In the URL field, fill in the network resource URL. Click the "Get Layers" button to confirm you have the correct URL. Click "ok".-Preview the service or open the server connection and drag the service into the map. You may have to drill down to the imagery layer, depending on what version of the software you are using.-If you already have other layers in the map, the web map service will be projected to match them. If not, it will default to longitude/latitude, and you should change the projection. Right-click on the layer name and choose "change coordinate system". NJ State Plane is recommended. -You may get a warning message about the coordinate transformation; dismiss it. The errors described in that warning will not actually occur if you are using NJ State Plane coordinates. That coordinate system is supported directly in the web map service, so ArcMap does not wind up doing the coordinate transformation.
