Description:
Abstract: This Web Map Service (WMS) layer serves natural color imagery from the 2013 National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP) for New Jersey. NAIP acquires 4-band digital ortho imagery during the agricultural growing seasons in the U.S. A primary goal of the NAIP program is to enable availability of of ortho imagery within sixty days of acquisition. The source imagery used is 1 meter ground sample distance (GSD) ortho imagery rectified within +/- 6 meters to true ground at a 95% confidence level. NAIP imagery is formatted to the UTM coordinate system using NAD83. NAIP imagery may contain as much as 10% cloud cover per tile. Georeferenced Tagged Image File Format (GeoTIFFs) for NJ were acquired by the NJ Office of Information Technology and reprocessed for the WMS. See Data Quality>Lineage for details. Please note that the WMS resamples the data, so the locations and characteristics of features shown by the service are not identical to the reprocessed image files.
Purpose: This service was created to provide convenient internet access to 2013 NAIP orthophotos. It can be used by anyone with internet access and client software that can consume Open Geospatial Consortium compliant Web Map Services (WMS).The data provide aerial survey of the State of New Jersey. Orthophotos serve a variety of purposes, from interim maps to field references for earth science investigations and analysis. The digital orthophoto is useful as a layer of a geographic information system.

In addition to the default spatial reference, this NJOIT OGIS WMS service supports requests for data delivered natively in the following coordinate reference systems: -EPSG::3424 NAD83 NJ state plane feet -EPSG::2959 UTM zone 18N -EPSG::4269 Geographic NAD83 -EPSG::4326 Geographic WGS84 -EPSG::102711 NAD83 NJ state plane feet, ESRI. For imagery capture dates, users may consult shapefiles of county mosaic seamlines, published by USDA. These shapefiles include the capture date and time range for each swath; or examine the metadata for the individual tile of interest. Four-band GeoTIFF quarter quad tiles from USDA in UTM zone 18N, NAD83 were converted to four-band MrSID MG4 tiles, using LizardTech GeoExpress 8.5. These images were indexed to create a three band, natural color WMS, using LizardTech Express Server.

Ordering Instructions: This OGC-compliant WMS is compatible with a broad range of client software (See http://thecarbonproject.azurewebsites.net/Products/Gaia for one example of a free client). Use part or all of the network resource address to connect to the service. There are multiple sub-layers in the WMS; turn all of them off except "Natural 2010". ArcGIS-Specific Instructions:One-Time Setup (for each user profile) -Launch ArcCatalog -Highlight "GIS Servers" in the catalog tree and double-click "Add WMS Server". -In the URL field, type http://njwebmap.state.nj.us/njimagery -Click the "Get Layers" button to confirm you have the correct URL. -After the layer information appears, click the OK button. -"New Jersey on njwebmap.state.nj.us" will appear in the list of GIS servers.Using the service -In ArcGIS 9.3: In ArcCatalog, double-click the "New Jersey" service entry that appears within the entry for the GIS server. Double-click the "Imagery" entry. Drag the sub-layer you wish to use into your ArcMap window. -In ArcGIS 9.2 or earlier: You cannot see the sub layers in ArcCatalog. Drag the "New Jersey" service name into ArcMap. Expand the "New Jersey" service name in ArcMap's table of contents. You should see several sub-layers. For faster performance and less load on our server, turn all of them off except for "Natural 2010". -In all versions: If you already have other layers in the map, the web map service will be projected to match them. If not, it will default to longitude/latitude, and you should change the projection. Right-click on the layer name and choose "change coordinate system". NJ State Plane is recommended. -You may get a warning message about the coordinate transformation; dismiss it. The errors described in that warning will not actually occur if you are using NJ State Plane coordinates.
