Process Description:
Starting in 2009, the NJDEP incorporated vector data obtained as electronic files from responsible entities or their environmental consultants. These files are based upon survey coordinates obtained by licensed surveyors who achieve horizontal accuracy of less than 1 foot. The Site Remediation Program has required that electronic submissions not vary from the position of control points found in the orthorectified 2012 aerial images by more than +/- 5 feet. It should be noted that some of the records in this layer were created based on NJDEP review of paper maps supplied by the party responsible for the site. The confidence as to the accuracy tends to be high but is limited to the quality of the maps provided by the responsible entities. Upon request, NJDEP can supply information about which records are digital submissions versus which were created from review of paper maps. Submissions are then reviewed by the appropriate SRP staff using a customized version of Arc Explorer at which time the deed notice boundary can be linked to the correct deed notice subject item and activity and approved for addition into the deed notice GIS layer.
