Title: Bedrock-Surface Topography of New Jersey,1:100,000, Series DGS07-2, Edition 20070516 (Geol_bedrock_topology) (Web Mercator ArcGIS Online Service)
Geospatial Data Presentation Form: vector digital data

Publisher: NJ Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP)
Other Citation Details: This map is based on water-well, test-boring, and geophysical data from the publications listed below, and from unpublished data on file at the New Jersey Geological Survey, compiled between 1983-2002 by D. W. Hall, J. L. Hoffman, S. L. Ghatge, L. M. Mulliken, L. A. Nicholson, S. D. Stanford, and R. W. Witte. Bedrock-surface elevations along the Atlantic and Delaware Bay coast, and adjoining inland areas, between Sea Girt and Penns Grove, are based on fewer wells and borings than elsewhere and the elevation contours shown in this area are therefore less certain. Description:
Abstract: This geographic information system (GIS) data set shows the bedrock-surface topography of New Jersey. The bedrock-surface topography shows the elevation of the top of the bedrock or Coastal Plain formations in areas where the surficial materials are generally more than 25 feet thick.
Purpose: This GIS data set depicts the extent of bedrock-surface topography contours across the State of New Jersey. It was prepared in cooperation with the U. S. Geological Survey (USGS) National Geologic Mapping Program.
Supplemental Information: Digital compilation of geologic data sets by Ronald S. Pristas. Authors Notes: Enlargement of the data to more detailed scales than specified could result in registration errors. If information is needed at more detailed scales, please contact the New Jersey Geological Survey to determine the status of detailed mapping.

Horizontal Positional Accuracy:
Horizontal Positional Accuracy Report: Four registration tics on the 1:100,000 scale base maps were utilized to register and transform the data from board-inches to state plane coordinate feet. A root-mean-square (RMS) error of 0.005 was required (approximately 41.67 feet at 1:100,000 scale). Proof plots were made for each data set on stable-base media and compared to the original data. Line work that deviated from the original position by more than 0.02 inch were re-digitized, re-plotted and corrected until acceptable results were obtained

Process Step:
Process Description:
Stable-base manuscript was manually digitized in board-inches. A root-mean-square error of 0.005 was maintained for each digitizing session. The coverage file was then transformed into the North American Datum of 1983, New Jersey State Plane coordinate feet. A root-mean-square error of 0.005 was obtained. The coverage was checked against the original stable-base manuscript. Any lines which deviated more than .002 inches was re-digitized and rechecked. Attribution of the line features (contours) was performed interactively after digitizing was completed. The coverage was then converted to ESRI's shapefile format.
